The Blooming Platter Cookbook is Celebrated on VegNews Magazine’s “Press Pass” Blog

Jeremiah, Lyndsay & Betsy, Blooming Platter Cookbook Book-Signing Dinner, The Millennium, San Francisco

What a whirlwind the last couple of weeks have been!

I’ve not even shared one of the most exciting events to happen since the publication of The Blooming Platter Cookbook because I hardly knew where to start.  But on  Thursday, July 14, my dear friend Yvette Hetrick and my husband, Joe, co-hosted a  wine reception, “Dutch treat” dinner, and book-signing for 30 of Yvette’s closest friends and family members in the private dining room at Millennium Restaurant in San Francisco.

The Millennium is especially significant to me because it was the first vegan restaurant in which I ever dined many years ago, before I was even a vegan, and whose Millennium Cookbook, which I promptly bought, has been very influential to me on many levels.

So, when VegNews Magazine staffer, Lyndsay Orwig, a guest at the dinner, generously posted her account entitled “Celebrating the Seasons” on the magazine’s “Press Pass” page, I thought there was no better lead-off.

It was a beautiful, vibrant evening of generosity, graciousness, goodwill, and great food and wine.  I hope you’ll start with Lyndsay’s illustrated synopsis (just click on the link above) and that you’ll stay tuned for a few more highlights in separate postings, including a couple more recommendations for unbelievable vegan restaurants in the San Francisco and Napa areas, wines from the central coast area, art, accommodations, and more.

A bountiful thank you to Lyndsay and to VegNews Magazine!

The Blooming Platter Cookbook’s Southern Sweet Tea Salad Featured in FARM’s MEATOUT MONDAY e-Newsletter

The good folks at FARM have gone and done it again…featured one of the recipes from The Blooming Platter (vegan) Cookbook in their MEATOUT MONDAY eNewsletter.

I love FARM, I love this recipe and I love serving it in my late beloved grandmother, Virginia White’s (“Nana”), tea cups that I inherited.

Thanks, FARM!

High Praise on Amazon for The Blooming Platter Cookbook

On Amazon recently, I stumbled across a review for The Blooming Platter Cookbook written by one Terri Lynn Merritts.

It read like something my mother would have written(!) only Terri and I don’t know each other…or we didn’t until I sought her out on FB after reading her high praise.

Her words are music to my ears:

“I am seriously impressed with the recipes in Betsy DiJulio’s new book THE BLOOMING PLATTER COOKBOOK”…These are some of the most elegant and impressive recipes I have ever seen collected between two covers yet each one is easy doable by any cook. Betsy DiJulio has done an incredible job of sharing recipes you cannot find in any other cookbook. This is a truly unique, must-have cookbook.”

Thank you, Terri.

VegNewsletter Features a Recipe from The Blooming Platter Cookbook

Hi everyone~

Speaking of food and wine, the current issue features a recipe from The Blooming Platter Cookbook!  It’s my Mango Coconut Sorbet, a summertime favorite.

Thanks to all the folks at VegNews for including The Blooming Platter in VegNewsletter; it’s such an honor!  I can’t wait to meet all of you on my trip to San Francisco next week!

Brand New Blooming Platter Bookplates

My talented designer friend, Cae Hyrskanich, designed these custom Blooming Platter Cookbook bookplates at my request.

Especially for folks who have purchased a book but live outside the local area, these allow me to still be able to sign and personalize the ir book s by mailing them a self-adhesive plate to adhere in the front cover or title page of their book.

Cae designed them so that I can easily print them from my inkjet printer using acid- and lignen-free adhesive-backed paper that I special ordered.

I love that each one features large flowers reminiscent of “blooming platters” along with small versions of all four of the seasonal icons used throughout the book.

Thanks, Cae, for allowing me to offer this custom feature!

And the Winner of The Blooming Platter Cookbook: A Harvest of Seasonal Vegan Recipes Is…

…Brenda Lacasse!

Sometimes 13 IS a lucky number!  I will be mailing Brenda a copy of The Blooming Platter Cookbook as soon as she emails me her address.

The way my truly random selection worked is that I assigned a number 1-19 to each of the comments, first received to most recently received.  Then, thanks to the wonders of www.random.org, I just plugged in the starting and ending numbers, clicked “generate,” and voila!  Brenda’s number came up.  It’s a really cool simple tool should you ever need a random selection.

As for the rest of you contest entrants, thank you so much for throwing your number in the hat and for “liking” the book.  I look forward to responding to each of your yummy comments individually, and I hope you will be able to snag a copy some other way.

Happy Summer Solstice!  Today is the longest day of the year…more time for cooking and eating…compassionately!
